Neck pain is a very common problem. Causes range from poor posture and a general lack of mobility through to more sudden and traumatic injuries such as whiplash after a motor vehicle accident.
The nature of neck pain can vary significantly from just a mild ache through to a pain so severe that it can totally interfere with your daily life.
The neck consists of seven vertebrae with discs between them as well as two facet joints at each level behind the disc.
Collectively the anatomy of the cervical spine allows us to move our head freely in space so that we can look left and right up down and experience our world.
When dysfunction and inflammation of the spinal joints and local soft tissues affect the ability of the neck to move properly, this can be experienced as neck pain. Usually this neck pain is reasonably well isolated to just a small area but if the problem becomes significant enough it can also irritate nerve roots which then may lead to referral patterns, typically into one or both arms in the form of a dull ache, a pins and needles or even a shooting pain.
Parkinson Chiropractic is well equipped to determine the likely cause of your neck pain and treat it accordingly.
When we treat you for your neck pain we will not merely focus on the chiropractic treatment of a joint which may be painful, but rather we like to take a holistic view of the other surrounding soft tissues as well. This is why in our treatment you will receive heat and massage before any other sort of chiropractic work is given. It is our belief that when you are relaxed before your treatment better results are gained. Your treatment will usually involve heat and massage as well as specific spinal adjustments, appropriate rehabilitation exercises and home care advice.
